New tote bag test! Can it handle a trip to the bookstore? 📚

Yes, yes it can!

I'll admit I've been buying more books than reading them lately but I have a new house to fill with books so really it's justified, right? But as I fall out of a reading marathon, I'm falling back into my writing and finding time to work on my novels again. The timing for it isn't super great but words are being written! And now I have some new reading material as a reward thanks to my latest book haul from Barnes & Noble! It's a good looking book stack if I do say so myself.

Now to decide which one to read first...

For my fellow writers, my group is running a writing challenge this November as an alternative to NaNoWriMo. We're focusing on finishing our novels whether that means starting the first draft, completing final edits, or anything in between. Check out @thenovelgauntlet for more info! I picked these up out of personal interest, not necessarily for any of my WIPs (that desperately need attention that I can't give them at the moment) but I have no doubt they'll influence my projects in one way or another.

Throwback to when I got the cats new play tubes af

Throwback to when I got the cats new play tubes after the last ones finally gave out 💜

They now spend their mornings racing through the tubes while I'm working (my office is really the cat room and they just let me in their space, if I'm being honest 😅). This is, of course, when they're not popping on camera during my meetings as pets like to do.

And speaking of meetings, I'm off for an afternoon of them and then a bit of stripping paint off cabinet doors.

Very exciting stuff 😂

I've heard it can take multiple points of exposure before someone buys a book, and this one was proof of that for me 🐙

I'd seen it around online when it was first released and remember it sounded interesting but not enough that I wanted to purchase a copy. Then someone in my writing server talked about how great it was, and it's come up since then a few different times, always with a glowing recommendation. So by the time I got to Barnes & Noble a few weeks ago and saw it sitting on one of the tables in the center aisle, I was primed to purchase!

And yes the cover did have something to do with it. It was hard to walk by and NOT pick it up.

The quick blurb says that THE MOUNTAIN IN THE SEA by Ray Nayler is about: "Humankind discovers intelligent life in an octopus species with its own language and culture, and sets off a high-stakes global competition to dominate the future."

Have you picked up a book recently because you kept seeing or hearing about it everywhere?
